Ear Aesthetics (Otoplasty)
These are surgeries performed in cases of dissatisfaction with the shape and size of the ear and serious asymmetries between the two ears. The “pronounced ear”, as it is best known among the public, is actually a situation where the auricle is flat where it should be curved, and therefore it is a problem especially when viewed from the front.
There are a wide variety of surgical techniques available for its correction, and the surgical process is usually painless and the person does not have to worry about being bandaged for a few days.
Often prominent ear aesthetics, ear reduction, earlobe aesthetics are applied. Prominent ear is due to the high angle between the head and the ear and the insufficient development of the upper fold on the ear.
It is recommended to be operated in pre-school childhood in order not to experience self-confidence problems by being exposed to peer bullying at school ages. On the other hand, prominent ear can be corrected later at any age.
It can be performed with local or general anesthesia according to patient preference and compliance. It can be combined with rhinoplasty or other surgeries.
The process takes about 1-1.5 hours. The patient can be discharged on the same day.
After the surgery, a bandage dressing is applied, this wrap is opened on the 2nd day, and the hair bands are more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.
A tennis player-headband is used for 3 weeks after the surgery. If the patient is feeling well, it is possible to return to work even on the same day.
In the first days, some swelling may occur in the ear. Within 15 days, the swelling gradually decreases and the ears take their final shape in a few months.
Provided that there is no impact to the ear, light activities can be done after 1-2 weeks, and heavy activities can be done after 1 month.
